Your Start in the Arts

We see talented and motivated graduating high school seniors from around the country.
When they speak about their high school drama departments and teachers, we hear two main themes: life-changing teaching and support, and very constrained budgets. So, we developed the Your Start in the Arts Grant Program to support high school theater and drama departments.

Each year, during National Arts & Humanities Month, The New York Conservatory will take nominations for the distribution of (10) $1,000 grants.

How It Works

1) Starting on October 1, high school students will be able to nominate their high school drama club or department for a $1,000 grant by completing the nomination form. We will accept nominations until October 31, 2020 at 11:59pm EST.

2) Once the nominations close, a panel of New York Conservatory actor-faculty will convene to read the submissions. The panel will choose the 10 most compelling cases for support.

3) Grant winners will be notified by email on December 15, 2020. We will ask each winning department to provide us with some background about their school and drama department, and a quote for our press materials.

4) Immediately upon receipt of these items, grant checks will be mailed via Fedex to the contact person in the drama department.

You generous grant will allow us to invest in new lights for our stage. As this is an ongoing process, any funds received will aid in us reaching our goal of a brand new lighting system. Thank you again for helping our students and staff continue to bring the love of all the arts to our community.

Bay Shore High School, New York

Due to a fire that destroyed a portion of our campus requiring our school to relocate, BTW Magnet High School is currently in a temporary facility without our needed performance spaces. The funds provided by this grant will allow us to purchase an ETCnomad Education System and laptop, which will allow us the flexibility to move from venue to venue while still providing students with a current console that will support innovative lighting design techniques.

Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, Texas

Each year we provide an opportunity for thousands of local elementary school students to come and see our professional-quality productions during the school day. These funds will allow us to provide those students with transportation and access to our shows. We are so thankful for this opportunity and generous gift.
